For the past four years, I have survived on humor, even satire, because raucous laughter has consoled my friends and me as we recover from the latest set of disasters. And although we once believed a buoyant, defiant spirit propels us, we’ve opted for a less acidic, more generous approach in helping others find solutions to insurmountable problems.

As we move into 2021, there is an invitation to hold hope close to our hearts and think in new terms. And as we yearn for hope, we’re asking for something that is extraordinarily deep. We’re asking for something beyond our known limits. Maybe we’ll focus on developing a concept, finding new love, rebuilding a business, or starting something fresh.

And although 2021 is unknown to us, we can experience enormous confidence in recognizing hope in someone else. Think of it as an invitation to trust. If we can trust the unknown, we can move further away from uncertainty and embrace a fresher, united start.

I hope you’re doing something special for the New Year. For me, I’m going to sing in 2021 with a bottle of good wine and a dose of Bob Marley.
